Nomadic Picnic is an unconventional meal from 6 sculptural dishes designed and prepared by us. The dishes are developed especially for the performance, they serve as activators. Here people meet each other in silence.
The sitting spot for the first dish is indicated by us, later people are invited to change the spots and to move their mats, so each dish is eaten in a different constellation of people.
There is no tableware and no cutlery, food is served on hands and forearms
It starts with the ritual
of cleaning and massaging
the hands of the participants
It is the transition from the outside world to the performance
Food is prepared from
organic ingredients
It is a vegan, gluten-free meal, without added sugars
Nomadic Picnic seeks to go beyond common modes of verbal introductions and interactions, and make people get to know each other in a different way, through sensing, looking, and sharing. By challenging modes of being together and eating together, people can get to know themselves and others through the senses.
Nomadic Picnic was supported by AFK, Vrijheidsmaaltijd Foundation, and Wim Bijma tuinen. It was performed 20 times in different locations such as Nevereverend, Vondel CS, Mediamatic, Punt WG, Van Eesteren Museum, and Cascoland and was featured in Vice Magazine.
